Wavelink Expands Industry Leadership in Multi-vendor Mobile Device Management

New version of Avalanche Mobility Center increases support for hardware and infrastructure from multiple vendors

MIDVALE, UTAH — May 28, 2008 — Wavelink Corporation today announced the availability of Wavelink™ Avalanche Mobility Center™ (MC) 4.6, which expands its industry-leading infrastructure and mobile device support for additional hardware and firmware versions and adds support for SQL Server databases and Linux operating systems. Avalanche MC, which is used to manage more than one million mobile devices worldwide, is the only vendor-agnostic product with extensive functionality across devices and infrastructures from all major vendors.

Wavelink’s Avalanche MC is a comprehensive management solution for the wireless enterprise, providing complete visibility and control of wireless infrastructure and mobile devices from a central console. Avalanche MC eases the configuration, deployment and management of wireless networks while offering extensive flexibility through the support of a wide range of mobile devices, including legacy devices and infrastructure.

“With the acquisitions taking place in the mobile device management market, end users are being hurt by proprietary solutions that limit their choices in hardware,” said Lamar Van Wagenen, Wavelink president and COO. “Wavelink recognizes that many companies have a variety of devices on their network, and we continually look to improve our products to provide greater functionality and infrastructure support to our customers. We offer the only product that supports mobile devices and infrastructure from a large variety of vendors and networks, as well as printers, RFID readers and other wireless devices. We provide a comprehensive solution designed to fit with any company’s existing setup.”

Avalanche MC enables users to easily view, analyze and manage wireless devices and infrastructure across the enterprise from a central console. The release of Avalanche MC 4.6 includes the following new features and benefits:

  • Expanded support for new hardware and firmware from Cisco, Symbol/Motorola and Proxim. For a complete list of supported infrastructure, visit the Resources section at http://www.wavelink.com/products/avmc.aspx.
  • The ability to run server components on Linux will be available in June 2008.
  • Customizable reports for presenting data collected by Avalanche MC.
  • Improved usability throughout the product, including scheduling reboots, managing profiles, displaying real-time device properties and editing settings.
  • Support for Windows* with SQL Server* and PostgreSQL* databases.

Rik Turner, an analyst at Datamonitor, said, “With recent acquisitions in the market bringing the agnostic status of some providers into question, Wavelink is upping its focus on the WLAN network side again just in case any erstwhile partners from other companies are tempted to jump ship. Wavelink has device as well as network management and is now developing a scripting language so that any OEM partners will be able to write their own scripts to support their equipment.”

Wavelink Avalanche Mobility Center 4.6 is now available through Wavelink channel partners. Avalanche MC is available with two plug-ins, Avalanche Remote Control (RC) and Avalanche CE* Secure (CES). With the Avalanche RC plug-in, administrators can remotely diagnose and remedy both applications and device settings or simply provide assisted guidance to the end user. Avalanche CES provides advanced user authentication and security on Windows CE mobile devices, reducing the risk that a lost or stolen mobile device can be used to compromise an organization’s critical systems and data.
