Wavelink and Nuance partner to deliver Voice-Enabled Emulation

Salt Lake City , UT - September 27, 2007 -Wavelink Corporation, a leading developer of multi-vendor mobile application and infrastructure management software for the enterprise, today has partnered with Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions for businesses and consumers, to deliver speech-enabled solutions for mobile businesses. Wavelink launched voice-enabled emulation powered by Nuance® technology with the introduction of Wavelink Speakeasy™ for its Terminal Emulation and Industrial Browser applications. This unprecedented emulation feature illustrates Wavelink’s commitment to stay at the forefront of the industry.

Wavelink Speakeasy delivers low-cost integration of voice-driven, hands-free data collection employing existing host connectivity applications. Voice-enabled emulation requires no specialized voice-specific mobile device. The Wavelink solution provides high-quality speech recognition and text-to-speech functionality through the Wavelink scripting engine. Developed using Nuance’s VoCon® 3200 speech recognition system and RealSpeak® Solo text-to-speech engine, the solution does not require voice training and supports multiple languages out of the box. Customers can selectively decide which applications, such as item picking, would benefit from voice integration.

Wavelink voice-enabled emulation is an easy to implement, cost-effective voice solution. The product requires no additional server hardware, software or IT support, but most importantly, requires no modification of the host application. Wavelink VP of Sales, Ken Whelan states, “Customers don’t want to make changes to host-based applications—Wavelink Speakeasy provides the easiest solution AND the necessary investment costs a fraction of other available solutions.”

“Noisy warehouse and other mobile work environments where Wavelink’s products are used rank among the most challenging locations for speech recognition,” said Craig Peddie, vice president and general manager, embedded speech, Nuance. “Nuance speech solutions deliver highly noise-robust, speaker-independent and full-featured speech recognition capabilities. Our text-to-speech provides Wavelink’s mobile device users with natural-sounding verbal feedback that’s highly intelligible and easy to listen to, even for an entire shift.”

Wavelink Speakeasy utilizing Nuance voice technology is now available.
